Breathitt Veterinary Center BVC LIMS Implementation

New Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) Implementation

Effective December 1, 2009

The Breathitt Veterinary Center (BVC) and the UK Livestock Disease Diagnostic Center (UK LDDC) are implementing a new laboratory information management system and billing software (USALIMS). The UK LDDC went live with the software August 1st and the BVC will activate USALIMS December 1, 2009.

The new LIMS offers many new features that will benefit KY veterinarians and livestock producers once fully integrated. We know, though, that problems will occur when we roll the program out and ask for your patience and understanding while we resolve them. We feel that the end result of the new LIMS will be worth the pain and effort during the transition.

USALIMS provides the ability to email your lab reports when they are available. This avoids delays in "snail mail" and problems surrounding error-prone fax machines. If you are interested in receiving your reports by email, and are not currently doing so, please call our business office to get enrolled. We recommend that you dedicate a special email address for this purpose and designate staff members in your clinic that will be responsible for distributing your reports internally at your clinic.

USALIMS will change the appearance of your reports, invoices, and bills. We very much desire your feedback on how well the new system works and to identify and rectify any problems with the implementation. The BVC will have personnel in place during the transition period to address any issues or problems you encounter.

Please advise your personnel and clients of the December 1, 2009, USALIMS implementation and ask that they notify the BVC if they encounter any issues regarding:

  • Test results
  • Reports
  • Invoices
  • Bills

Thank you for your understanding and support during this transition.
