BVC Fee Schedule
Introduction
The mission of the Breathitt Veterinary Center (BVC) is to provide rapid, accurate diagnostic data that enables veterinarians to make appropriate treatment decisions. The BVC is part of an interdependent team composed of the animal owner, veterinarian, and diagnostic laboratory dedicated to the efficient production of safe animal products to the consumers of Kentucky. The BVC uses the latest scientific knowledge, equipment, and techniques to reduce losses from animal diseases and to promote animal health.
The BVC is fully accredited for all animal species by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD). The scientific disciplines of Pathology, Microbiology, Molecular Diagnostics, Toxicology, Serology, and Virology are provided in the facility. The lists on the following pages include most of the diagnostic procedures performed by the BVC. The BVC continually expands its testing capabilities and strives to incorporate advancements in scientific tests and equipment into its operations. Please contact the BVC if you have any questions regarding the availability of tests or with a recommendation for additions.
Submission Policies
The BVC accepts diagnostic, regulatory, and surveillance submissions from referring veterinarians. A professional veterinary referral insures the most efficient and effective use of laboratory resources to achieve diagnostic results at the lowest cost to the owner. The referring veterinarian collects and submits appropriate specimens and completed accession forms. Test results are reported to the referring veterinarian who finalizes the diagnosis and makes recommendations for treatment. Submitting samples, specimens, or animals to the BVC implies agreement to policies of Murray State University and the Breathitt Veterinary Center and transfers ownership of samples and property to the Breathitt Veterinary Center upon receipt unless otherwise determined by written agreement prior to submission.
Hours of Operation
Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The university may alter hours of operation for energy conservation. The BVC is closed on all major holidays. After hours deliveries requiring assistance must be arranged in advance with on-call personnel. Submissions through the night depository not requiring assistance may be made at any time.
Submission Procedures
Biological specimens should be packaged, labeled, and shipped in accordance with federal DOT and IATA regulations. Compliance in packaging and labeling biological specimens is the responsibility of the shipper.
Please contact the BVC if you have any questions regarding shipping biological specimens. Avoid weekend and holiday delivery dates.
All diagnostic cases are charged a $10.00 accession fee.
